(Above and below). A diamond belt saw starts another 3m deep vertical cut into a whitbed bench. Note the lagoon which has been constructed in front of the cut to catch the water and allow it to be recycled through a submersible pump. 


(Above and below). The cut has now been completed and the stone has been displaced hydraulically. This can now be removed and cut into useable blocks of dimension stone using a wire-saw. Note the typical succession, roach at the top of the bench, shelly whitbed in the middle and clean whitbed in the lower part of the bench.
